Trojan runners compete on hilly course in Herington

Hillsboro High School cross-country team ran a hilly course Thursday at Herington.

Placing in the top five for the second meet in a row, Jonathan Hinerman claimed fourth place in the varsity boys’ 5K race with a time of 21 minutes, 31 seconds.

Abigail Driggers was 13th in a varsity girls’ 5K at 28:34.

Millie Sechrist was fourth in a girls’ junior varsity 5K race at 33:33. Coach Robert Haude said Anna Baugh also completed her first 5K for the season in the junior varsity race. She finished 14th at 50:48.

Among junior varsity boys, Caleb Rempel placed second, Avery Unruh was 41st, and Orin Blecha was 43rd.

Caleb Diener was second for the eighth grade boys and Jessi Dalke was fourth for the eighth grade girls’ race.

For the seventh grade boys, Charlie Peters was third and Nathan Lopez was 13th.

Emerson Funk was third, Kate Maxfield was 11th, and Anna Jones was 12th in a seventh grade girls’ race.

“The kids ran with great effort and determination,” Haude said. “I am very proud of each of them.”
