Trojan runners have outstanding day

Staff writer

Two Hillsboro cross-country runners placed in the top 25 Saturday at a race in Wamego.

“It was an outstanding day for our athletes,” coach Stuart Holmes said. “Jonathan Hinerman and Abby Driggers both medaled. Both ran smart and determined races.”

Hinerman placed 13th of 130 runners in a varsity boys’ five-kilometer race with a time of 18 minutes, and 16 seconds.

“He beat his fastest 5K time by over 30 seconds,” Holmes said.

Driggers came in 22nd of 94 in the junior varsity girls’ 4K race at 19:23.

Holmes thought each ran the best race of their careers. He said they both trained heavily during the summer, which improved their fitness.

The Trojans run next at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Southeast of Saline.
