Trojans boys tennis team off to rough start

The freshman-dominated Hillsboro Trojans tennis team opened the season Thursday with a quadrangular tournament at Conway Springs.

Jacob Issac scored the Trojans’ sole match win of the day, an 8-5 triumph over McPherson junior varsity player Alex Milleson.

Outside of that, Isaac and senior Josh Funk managed four game wins in five other singles matches against McPherson, Conway Springs, and Wichita Trinity.

The doubles team of Dakota Kleini and Brandon Wiebe was shut out of the win column in three matches.

“With so many freshmen playing their first year of tennis and Josh with just one year of experience, we will continue to work hard to close the skill level gap that exists at this time,” coach Stuart Holmes said. “The guys continued to hustle and make some good shots, which was positive. A highlight was that Jacob Isaac played well enough to win a match.”
