Allison Weber placed second in the Trojan Invitational tennis meet Thursday. She faced Cara Anderson of Wichita Independent in the finals, and the match went to a tiebreaker at 7 games apiece. Weber lost the tiebreaker 7-1.
Earlier in the meet, she defeated Caroline Engel of Wichita Collegiate 8-0 and Sydney Breault of Circle 8-2.
“Obviously, we were disappointed with Allison Weber’s tiebreaker loss in the finals,” coach Bob Woelk said in an email after the meet. “She played well in hurricane winds, but the conditions were the same for every girl.”
Claire Heyen and Allison Gray placed seventh in No. 1 doubles, defeating Hannah Latham and Hannah Strickler of Nickerson, 8-2. Prior to that, they were defeated by Brittany Duer and Jessi Heiman of Chapman, 8-1, and Elizabeth Schlater and Kamilie Barragree of Wichita Collegiate.
In No. 2 singles, Hannah Funk defeated Jazmene May, who was filling an open spot because Douglass had no No. 2 singles player, 8-1, to place seventh. Funk lost to Emma Iseman of Circle 8-1 and Nicole St. Clair of Wichita Independent 8-1. May lost to Briana Elliot of Chapman 8-0 and Alex Bayless of Wichita Collegiate 8-1.
