Allison Weber placed third in the No. 1 singles bracket at the Hesston Invitational tennis tournament Saturday.
She defeated Ariana Miller of Hesston 8-0 to start the day, then lost 8-1 to Anna Riedmiller of Wichita Independent.
“Riedmiller is another in a long list of outstanding freshman players we’re going to see this year,” coach Bob Woelk said in a release. “She ended up winning the whole thing.”
Weber then defeated Hannah Morrical of Smoky Valley 8-0 and Katie Nussbaum of Wichita Collegiate 8-4.
“Allison played some of her best tennis of the year in her final two matches, mixing her shots well and hitting a number of outstanding winners,” Woelk said.
Claire Heyen was 0-3 in the No. 2 singles bracket, but Woelk said she showed flashes of strong play against good opponents. She lost 8-2 to Kaylyn Oberle of Central Plains, 8-4 to Emily Roets of Smoky Valley, and 8-1 to Katelyn Hageman of Hesston.
A tournament scheduled for Thursday at Smoky Valley was rained out and rescheduled for Sept. 30.
