The fourth annual Chili Cookoff attracted 17 entries Saturday at Marion County Park and Lake. First place went to Dana Cokely, Angie Cox, Marcy Davis, and Tammi Schulte of Wichita, who competed to raise money for breast cancer research through Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Outstanding employee of the fourth quarter at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center is Dave Baliel, director of plant operations.

Ed Vinduska of rural Marion joined Kelly Bernhardt, Gary Evans, and Mike Meisinger in sowing 500 acres of wheat Monday for their neighbor, Bob Konarik, who is undergoing treatment for melanoma.

Two students are honored each month by Marion High School faculty and staff for citizenship and classroom performance. Chosen as September students of the month are senior Landon Leiker and junior Taylor Harms.

The sanctuary of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville turned into an art gallery Saturday as colorful quilts covered the pews and lined the balcony. The quilt show was a new Oktoberfest event.

Freshman Katey Ehrlich played all the way around the volleyball court in the Warriors’ victories Saturday over Attica, Belle Plaine, and South Barber and was named Marion High School athlete of the week.
