Browning-Ferris Industries is interested in purchasing Marion County Landfill Inc. and using it to solve trash problems for at least a four-county region. The potential positives seem to outweigh negatives at first glance, county commissioners said Monday.

A board game based on Monopoly but using Marion businesses and streets will be sold this Christmas by Marion Chamber of Commerce. Forty businesses are participating in “Marionopoly,” it was announced Friday at a regular monthly chamber meeting.

Marion city commissioners voted Monday to switch long distance telephone service to MCI. The move was made for lower rates and to take advantage of a special incentive offered.

Andrew Boekeman, whose father is owner of a Case-IH dealership in Wongan Hills, Western Australia, is in Marion a few days working with Straub International to learn more about successful Case-IH dealers.

Senior citizens traveled Friday to Topeka to see “Treasures of the Czar.” Those going were Florence Anderson, LaVera Bernhardt, David and Shirley Bowers, Bula Good, and Janet Keazer.
