Marion County Conservation District is celebrating 50 years of service to farmers and landowners of Marion County. Established in 1945, the district has provided cost-share programs in constructing waterways and terraces, seeding marginal cropland back to grass, constructing ponds, and planting windbreaks.

Marion will be home for a semi-pro baseball team this summer. Tony Woodall, pitcher and manager of the Lindsborg Black Sox, told Marion City Commission the team would move its franchise from Lindsborg to Marion this year.

Ann Bryant, Nova Bruner, Cathy Cleeton, and Lisa Donahue are pictured as they prepare homemade sack lunches at Marion Manor. The lunches were sold to raise money for the American Heart Association during Home with a Heart Week.

On With the Show, a vocal quartet of professional musicians and faculty members from several Kansas colleges, will perform March 5 at Tabor College. Members of the quartet are Janet Ediger, Ron Garber, Jonah Kliewer, Ken Rodgers, and Vada Snider.

A new restaurant called Aunt Matilda’s Pantry has opened at 1204 E. Main St., Marion. Owners of the business are Brian and Madonna Hedgecock, who moved to Marion in September.

Marion High School junior Lisa Zogelman has been selected as student of the month by the school faculty. Her parents are Pat and Mary Zogelman of Florence. Lisa plans to attend college and major in computer science or business administration.

Winner of the annual Pinewood Derby of Cub Pack 106 at the Tampa Community Center was Webelo Travis Burns. Second went to Marty Adam, third to Jeremy Kristek, and fourth to Anthony Clegg. Joseph Forsberg received an award for best of show
