Hilltop Manor, a low-rent federal housing project for the elderly on E. Lawrence St. in Marion, was completed in the spring of 1971. An open house 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday will celebrate its 25 years of service.

Clover Cliff Ranch Bed and Breakfast had a unique group stay there this past week when United Arab Emirates’ endurance horse race team spent the week preparing for World Cup races Saturday at Rock Springs Ranch near Junction City.

The group included riders led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai. An American support team that provided the horses also stayed at the ranch.

Warrior Boosters will sponsor a “Fifth Quarter Friday” after the Marion High School football game against Council Grove. Food, activities, and music will be provided for students until 11. Food will be free. Soft drinks will cost 25 cents each.

After extensive research and many walks through Marion Cemetery, Jack Swain thinks he has located most of the graves of veterans and has made a list of those needing markers and flags.

He has started placing flag holders at graves where none were found and plans to replace missing markers and install new flags in all of them.

Jason Kruse of Marion won the large project division of the FFA Ag Mechanics Division at the Kansas State Fair with a 42-foot trailer that features a beaver-tail end with ramps that can be placed in four positions for hauling and loading equipment or bales.
