Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
FEB. 24
7:45 a.m. — A 75-year-old woman with trouble breathing who fell at a Salem Home apartment in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:32 a.m. — With Marion ambulance undergoing repairs, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to Marion Assisted Living to help with cardiopulmonary resuscitation being administered for an unspecified resident. When the ambulance still had not arrived nine minutes after the call, Marion firefighters also were dispatched. A backup ambulance was activated in Hillsboro to handle any additional calls. An ambulance supervisor pronounced the patient dead at 10:02 a.m.
1:34 p.m. — A unspecific patient diagnosed with a transient ischemic attach or “mini-stroke” was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
3:48 p.m. — Waiting until after Hillsboro ambulance returned to the county, Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, Newton.
FEB. 25
4:41 a.m. — A 68-year-old man who had been drinking, passed out, and fell in a bathroom at a home in the 100 block of W. B St. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
7:23 a.m. — A pickup driver injured in a head-on collision with a school bus at 340th and Sunflower Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy; a state trooper; Lincolnville, Lost Springs, and Herington firefighters; Marion rescue squad; and Tampa, Hillsboro, and Dickinson County ambulances also were dispatched, but most were told they would not be needed before they arrived.
12:11 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head and ankle at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance, responding from a training session in Hillsboro.
12:15 p.m. — With Marion ambulance on another call, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a 64-year-old woman dealing with cancer who fell at a home in the 500 block of N. Coble St. in Marion. At an ambulance supervisor’s request, Marion firefighters also were dispatched. The ambulance took the patient to St. Luke.
1:08 p.m. — Immediately completing its previous call, Marion ambulance transferred an unspecified patient from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
3:31 p.m. — A 78-year-old man with trouble breathing at a home in the 400 block of E. Forest St., Marion, was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. The ambulance was headed to St. Luke but was diverted to HCH.
4:28 p.m. — A 48-year-old woman with a perforated bowel was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to McPherson Center for Health.
THURSDAY
3:47 a.m. — A 9-year-old girl with trouble breathing was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
10:46 a.m. — A 92-year-old woman on blood thinners with a nosebleed at a home in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:59 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman with sepsis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.
3:32 p.m. — When Marion ambulance told dispatchers it was back in the county, Hillsboro ambulance reported to St. Luke to transfer an unspecified patient to St. Francis. After Marion ambulance returned, however, it ended up handling the transfer. While heading back from Wichita, the ambulance encountered a rollover accident on US-50 near Walton and stopped to check on patients until a Harvey County ambulance arrived.
6:25 p.m. — Marion firefighters were dispatched to check on what was described as an already extinguished grass fire in the 400 block of N. Coble St.
9:06 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Marion Assisted Living was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
10:30 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman feeling faint at a home on Random Rd. at Marion County Park and Lake was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
FRIDAY
8:21 a.m. — An 84-year-old woman feeling a seizure coming on at a home in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance, which had been in Hillsboro obtaining supplies.
10:01 a.m. — A 52-year-old man not responding normally at Country Haven Inn in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance, which had been in Marion obtaining supplies.
10:53 a.m. — Ramona firefighters spent about an hour helping Dickinson County firefighters battle a grass fire just north of the county line on what would be Remington Rd. extended.
1:55 p.m. — The 52-year-old earlier taken to HCH was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley.
4:58 p.m. — Once Hillsboro ambulance returned, Marion ambulance was sent to St. Luke to transfer an unspecified patient to Wesley.
SATURDAY
8:51 a.m. — A 78-year-old man with trouble breathing at a farm near 160th and Diamond Rd. chose to go to a hospital by private vehicle instead of Hillsboro ambulance. A Goessel first responded evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
12:42 p.m. — A fire that grew beyond a trash barrel at a farm near 340th and Indigo Rd. was quickly extinguished by Tampa firefighters.
6:22 p.m. — Fire that spread to trees from a controlled burn near140th and Indigo Rds. was extinguished within 45 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.
10:31 p.m. — Goessel firefighters helped extinguish trees accidentally ignited during a controlled burn earlier in the day at an undisclosed location.
SUNDAY
9:21 a.m. — A 97-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 300 block of 7th St. in Durham was taken to HCH by Tampa ambulance. Durham first responders provided initial evaluation of the woman.
9:34 a.m. — Fire in trees near 140th and Holly Rds. was extinguished in a little more than two hours by Hillsboro firefighters.
12:55 p.m. — A 71-year-old woman with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and having trouble breathing at a home in the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion ws taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
3:19 p.m. — A 19-year-old man who hurt his shoulder in a two-vehicle accident on sleet-covered US-77 south of 140th Rd. at the Cottonwood River bridge was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Florence firefighters helped direct traffic for two hours and were in charge of the scene until a state trooper arrived.
7:05 p.m. — A woman in her 60s who fell at Westview Manor in Peabody after hip surgery was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance, which responded instead of Hillsboro ambulance, which originally was dispatched.
MONDAY
8:08 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a locked jaw at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
11:12 p.m. — A 92-year-old man with an unspecified condition was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.
11:23 p.m. — Smoke coming from a small fire beneath a piece of equipment at a coffee shop in the Tabor College fine arts building was cleared by Hillsboro firefighters, and the equipment was removed from the building. Marion and Durham firefighters and Marion ambulance also were dispatched but were told before they arrived that they would not be needed.
