Ex-chief’s hearing next week

A preliminary hearing for former Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody is set for 10 a.m. Oct. 15 in Marion County District Court.

It is scheduled for an all-day hearing.

Cody was charged Aug. 12, 2024, with interference with the judicial process for allegedly inducing witness Kari Newell to delete text messages between them related to a now-disavowed raid Aug. 11, 2023, on the Marion County Record.

The charge is a low-level felony that likely would result in probation if Cody is convicted.

His preliminary hearing had been scheduled for July 23 but was postponed so his defense lawyer, Sal Intagliata of Wichita, had time to review more than 50,000 pages of notes from Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents who investigated the raid.

The July delay was the third granted in the case. Originally scheduled for Dec. 16, it was delayed to May 21 and again to July 23.
