ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Sept. 29 — A wreck at US-56 and Orchard Dr. was investigated. A resident asked about vehicle identification numbers. Four drivers were informally warned about equipment violations.

Sept. 30 — A wreck in the 400 block of E. A St. was investigated. Police followed up with an outside agency about a social media post and helped a resident find local records for a background check.

Oct. 1 — Debris was removed from US-56. Residents expressed concerns about stray cats. No problems were found in checking on suspicious activity reported in 200 block of N. Lincoln St. A driver was informally warned for speeding.

Thursday — A resident talked to police about a child custody issue.

Friday — Seven drivers were informally warned about equipment violations. Other drivers were ticketed for having expired registration at US-56 and Jade Rd. and in the 100 block of S. Ash St. A resident was notified that Wichita police had recovered a vehicle. A child playing with a phone was blamed for a disconnected 911 call from the 400 block of S. Washington St. Police controlled traffic at a high school pep rally at Main St. and Grand Ave. No problems were found in checking on a report of suspicious activity in the 700 block of S. Washington St.

Saturday — A dog was hit by a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Washington St. Mislaid property was returned to its owner. Police met with a resident about a recovered bicycle and talked to a juvenile and a parent about curfew. Eight drivers were informally warned about equipment violations. Three more were ticketed for running stop signs at Ash and D Sts. Another was ticketed for having an expired license in the 400 block of Orchard Dr. Yet another was ticketed for having expired registration in the 300 block of Washington St.

Sunday — Police helped sheriff’s deputies find a person suspected of trespassing, answered a resident’s questions about child custody, helped a water plant operator exchange a chlorine bottle, and gave a driver directions. Two drivers were informally warned about equipment violations. Another was ticketed for running a stop sign at Ash St. and US-56.

MARION

Sept. 29 — Police answered questions from teachers at Oasis special education school. A possible rental scam was reported in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. A complaint in the 400 block of Forest St. was determined to be a civil matter. A driver was informally warned for having defective taillights at Roosevelt and Hudson Sts.

Sept. 30 — Police followed up on a shoplifting complaint at Marion Ace Hardware that is suspected of being part of a multi-city shoplifting spree. A resident was ticketed for having an unregistered dog and for allowing it to run loose in the 200 block of W. Santa Fe St.

Oct. 1 — A wreck in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. was investigated. A dog reported to be loose near Cedar and Lincoln Sts. was not found. A resident of the 200 block of S. Cedar St. expressed concern about a former spouse returning.

Thursday — Police continued to investigate a report of animal cruelty in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. A threat was reported in the 400 block of W. Santa Fe St. Police helped Hillsboro officers with a possible fight there. Drivers were warned for a license plate issue at Main and Roosevelt St., for having no turn signals at Main and Lincoln Sts., and for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St.

Friday — A dog loose in the 100 block of Ashley Dr. was taken to a veterinary clinic. Police blocked traffic on Main St. from Cedar St. to Elm St. for a high school pep rally and provided sobriety checks at a homecoming dance. A resident had questions about eviction proceedings. A driver was warned for having a defective license plate light at Main and 1st Sts.

Saturday — A loose dog reportedly killed a cat in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. A disturbance in the 400 block of Forest St. again was found to be a civil matter. Police were contacted twice about another, unspecified civil issue. Drivers were warned for having defective tag lights at Main St. and Eastmoor Dr., Main and 2nd Sts., and US-56 and Industrial St.

Sunday — An arrow was found in the 500 block of Walnut St. Police again were called to a continuing civil issue in the 400 block of Forest St. A driver was warned for having a defective tag light at US-56 and Industrial St.
