A traffic stop for a defective license-plate light led Hillsboro police to suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and THC concentrate early Sept. 1.
Brian Laroy Hart, 47, Hillsboro, was stopped in the 600 block of E. D St.
A deputy sheriff’s drug-sniffing dog indicated a possibility of drugs in the vehicle, leading officers to search it, Hillsboro assistant police chief Randal Brazil said.
Officers found 0.95 gram each of suspected fentanyl and cocaine, about 1/28 of an ounce of each; 3 grams of THC concentrate, slightly less than an eighth of an ounce; and 0.01 gram, or 10 milligrams, of suspected methamphetamine, according to the offense report.
The substances were field-tested and sent for laboratory confirmation.
A switchblade knife with drug residue on it also was found in Hart’s front pocket.
Hart was jailed on suspicion of possessing opiates or stimulants, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
He was released 39½ hours later after posting a $50,000 bond.
An official offense report additionally lists criminal possession of a weapon by a felon and a second-offense driving under the influence of drugs.
Those allegations were not included on Hart’s jail booking record. Brazil said additional allegations sometimes are identified as an officer completes a report after a suspect has been booked, and the county attorney ultimately decides what charges are filed.
A blood sample taken for the DUI investigation was sent to the KBI for testing.
